CELLS
A non-representational abstract piece exploring disability and chronic illness. I once had a medical test done that took pictures of my mitochondria. In the results, images of my mitochondria were placed next to pictures of healthy ones. Mine looked as if they were melting, splitting apart and deformed, that's what was the initial inspiration. My condition took 7 years to diagnose due to, in large part, a refusal to look deeper. Upon close inspection, clear shades and forms are made up of miniscule hatching in varying line weights to create value and imply shape, mirroring a complex diagnosis. An effect of my chronic illness is arthritis, affecting my joints, making meticulous and repetitive lines making a greater challenge compared to the average artist.
